Leverkusen’s winger Leon Baily insists he named his son after himself as ‘Leo’ is a short version of his own name.
The Jamaican says it’s not a tribute to Messi or Ronaldo but he doesn’t sound very convincing.
“It has nothing to do with football, but with me and my name. Leo is an abbreviation of Leon. And Leo is the lion – I am a lion,” Bayer Leverkusen’s attacker Leon Bailey told Bild, explaining the meaning behind his son Leo Cristiano’s name.
“I believe that my son also grows up with the mentality of being a fighter and a leader. And Cristiano is a lovely name that goes well with Leo.”
Well, Bailey may have voiced his reasons but they don’t look rather convincing for us.
The Messi-Ronaldo rivalry will continue next week when Barcelona host Juventus in the final game of the 2020-2021 Champions League group stage.
