The Red Devils are currently tied on points with Liverpool – but that could change very soon.
The story so far…
Manchester United are placed second in the Premier League standings and are tied on points (33) with Liverpool after 16 games.
Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City and Everton are in the third, fourth and fifth spots respectively – all at 29 points. The ongoing season is highly competitive, with Chelsea (sixth), Aston Villa (seventh) and Manchester City (eighth) tied at 26 points.
A look at our opponents
The Red Devils play Burnley next in the league, followed by Liverpool, Fulham, Sheffield United and Arsenal in January. Assuming we win all these games, we stand to gain a maximum of 15 points.
Realistically speaking, we could also expect a draw against the Merseysiders or the Gunners – in which case, we can collect 11 points.
Who do our rivals play?
Provided we win all our games, we will have three points more than Liverpool after beating them (hopefully). Jurgen Klopp’s men also play Tottenham later this month, meaning that’s another opportunity for both our rivals to drop points. Liverpool then face West Ham, which could be an interesting battle that goes either way.
Chelsea and City have a game coming up – whoever wins, could move up to the third spot. Interestingly, Leicester and Everton also play each other before the end of the month, meaning one of them will forfeit three points (or both may lose points in case of a draw). The Foxes also play Chelsea and we could benefit from the outcome of that fixture as well.
Everton have some tough games against quality sides like Wolves and Aston Villa – making for an exciting January indeed.
Our prediction
All of our rivals – Liverpool, Spurs, Chelsea, City, Everton and Leicester – have chances to drop points this month.
Comparatively, we’ve got an easier set of fixtures – except the one against Liverpool, of course. Nevertheless, by the end of the month, we should find ourselves with either 48 or 44 points on the board. If all goes well, we may even top the table!
