Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has highlighted Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish as his number one choice transfer after urging his old club to make a deal happen whilst admitting he wouldn’t mind seeing Paul Pogba depart.
Ferdinand, now retired, enjoyed a hugely successful playing career with United after spending 12-years working under the guidance of legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
During his time at Old Trafford, the elite English centre-back lifted a whopping 16 major trophies, including six Premier League titles and the 2008 Champions League.
Now retired and plying his trade as a top-tier footballing pundit, Ferdinand has highlighted Grealish as the player his old club side should the break the bank to sign.
Grealish, 25, has spent his entire playing career with his boyhood Aston Villa, however, a monumental rise to the top of English football has recently seen the attacking playmaker emerge as one of the Premier League’s brightest talents.
The Villa born n’ bred star has already racked up an impressive 15 direct goal contribution in his first 16 matches in all competitions, so far this season.
Villa’s star attacker was heavily linked with a move to United during last summer’s transfer window, however, after seemingly putting all their efforts into landing Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, United failed to make a move for Grealish materialise.
However, the 25-year-old still appears to have many admirers associated with United, Ferdinand being one of them.
Speaking on his FIVE YouTube channel, Ferdinand hailed the English playmaker and urged the Red Devils’ hierarchy to go one better than last summer and finally secure a move.
“I don’t care if [Paul] Pogba goes or not, [Jack] Grealish is my man,” Ferdinand said, as quoted by TalkSport.“I have known him since he was in his early teens.
“He came to my restaurant and I got him and his dad some tickets for a game.
“He’s a great kid with a great family. He loves his football.
“What the young kids don’t see with Jack Grealish is the hunger and hard work behind closed doors – the attention to detail and the way he trains.
“He has changed his regime and looked at himself and asked what he can do better.
“I have heard from a lot of people that he is diligent in all the work he does off the pitch to get to where he is now.
“You are seeing results week in and week out.
“He is one of those players that has looked at himself in the summer and thought, ‘Yes, I’ve done well last season, I’ve signed a new deal at my boyhood club, and I am going to go again’.
“If I am a manager of a top team in England, a top three or four team, then I would not allow him to stay there, I would go and take him.”
