Sergio Ramos is reportedly not looking set for a transfer to Manchester United or Liverpool and will instead sign a new deal with Real Madrid. It is expected that the 34-year-old defender will commit his future to Los Blancos with a new deal, despite links with the Red Devils and Liverpool in recent times.
Sergio is a Real Madrid legend after an impressive career at the Santiago Bernabeu, and it would have been surreal to see him join the Reds in particular. Liverpool supporters won’t have forgotten Ramos’ clash with Mohamed Salah in the 2018 UCL final, which forced the Egyptian superstar off with an injury in the first half.
This ended up being a huge blow for the Merseyside giants as they lost the final to Real Madrid without their star footballer to help them. Spain international stays a top defender, though, and that’s a problem area for the Reds at the moment due to injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez.
The Red Devils could also have done well to sign the Spanish centre-back, who would surely be a major upgrade on unconvincing performers like Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly. Timothy Fosu-Mensah is set to join Bayer Leverkusen for a fee of nearly £1.5m after the Netherlands international rejected the club’s latest deal proposal.
The right-back is out of contract at the end of the campaign and sought an exit after the Norwegian manager warned the Dutchman that first-team opportunities would be limited even if he signed a new contract.
The club had hoped to welcome fans back to Theatre of Dreams before Christmas and even in a worst-case scenario felt that their matchday income would return in some capacity by the end of the season.
