The Spaniard’s contract expires in less than 6 months.
The boss appreciates his quality and contributions throughout the season.
However, the competition inside the team makes it hard for Juan to play regularly.
However, no decision about his future has been taken yet, Solskjaer points out.
“The decision is very difficult every time with Juan,” Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said, as quoted by the Daily Mail. “You know he’s got the quality. If he plays, he scores goals, he’s contributed this season.
“Then again, we’ve had other players who have taken his role as well – Mason [Greenwood] has done well in that position, Paul [Pogba] now, and Juan really contributes in and around the group.
“So it’s one of those that I have discussions with all the time, it’s difficult to leave him out but unfortunately that’s where it is at the moment, so no decision has been made there yet.”
Juan Mata has barely played this season, making just 10 appearances in all competitions in which he registered 2 goals and 3 assists.
The Spaniard’s contract expires in less than 6 months and while he’s not expected to leave in January, it increasingly looks like he departs Man United as a free agent in July.
