The Brazilian midfielder was slammed down inside the box soon after Fulham opened the scoring on Wednesday.
Dermot Gallagher believes Fred’s leg was caught by Ruben Loftus-Cheek inside the box so it should’ve been given a penalty.
Speaking about the incident involving Fred getting denied a penalty against Fulham, former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher told Sky Sports: “I think it’s a penalty.
“I think sometimes people look at the wrong thing. I think the foul occurs before Fred plants his foot.
“I wonder whether they look if they look at where Fred’s foot is planted and Loftus-Cheek doesn’t catch him.
“But I think the foul has already occurred, he’s caught him on the back of the leg before that so it’s a penalty.”
Fred was clearly impeded inside the penalty area, but the fact that the referee and VAR both ignored the incident was shocking. Perhaps Jurgen Klopp and Jose Mourinho’s moaning about Man United getting penalties is finally having an effect on the officials.
But the Red Devils only got more motivated after that incident – quickly getting the equalizer and then winning the game thanks to a Paul Pogba special.
