Bailly picked up a knock in training on Tuesday.
According to Solskjaer, the Ivorian is ‘sore and bruised’.
Speaking to MUTV ahead of the Old Trafford clash, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “Eric Bailly was down to play this game.
“But he had a bang yesterday so he’s sore and bruised. That’s unfortunate for him.”
Solskjaer opted to rest Victor Lindelof against Sheffield United with Saturday’s trip to Arsenal in mind. Axel Tuanzebe starts alongside Harry Maguire instead.
The Norwegian added: “It’s a chance for him Tuanzebe. He’s been patient. Played in some cup games, Champions League. We wanted to rest Victor again.”
