Mohamed Salah is in line to play for Egypt for the first time in close to two years after he was called up to the squad for their upcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Having last played for The Pharaohs at the Africa Cup of Nations in July 2019, Salah then missed out on playing for his country for a number of reasons, most notably disruptions arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Egypt is due to play Kenya and Comoros on March 25 and 29, respectively, as it bids to reach the continental showpiece for a 25th time.
Egypt leads Group G with eight points on goal difference from Comoros who are second. Both teams need just a point to qualify from the group. Kenya is third on three points while Togo props the table with one point.
Meanwhile, the 28-year-old was also named Liverpool’s Player of the Month for February after netting three goals in the club’s six games during the month.
It is the third straight month the talismanic winger has won the award and he said it was a “nice feeling” to clinch it once more.
“It’s a good feeling and I’m happy about our last results, so hopefully we can just keep winning,” Salah told Liverpool’s media team.
“I don’t want to just talk about my season because we play as a team, so I’d say it’s a tough season for all of us and we just need to carry on and try to win games.”
“I just want to say thank you very much for voting for me. We’re going to give our 100 per cent to win the next few games and hopefully we can do that and do good also in the Champions League.”
