Niger State Government, yesterday, restated the ban on the operation of commercial motorcyclists, also known as Okada riders and illegal motor parks in the state, particularly in Minna, the state capital.
The state’s Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Alhaji Muhammad Sani Idris, in a statement yesterday, said any commercial motorcyclist arrested for violating the rules as contained in the Executive Order will pay N10,000 for first offence, N20,000 for second offence and N50,000 for the third as well as forfeiture of the motorcycle to serve as deterrence to others.
The statement reaffirmed the existence of Task Force members set up by government on the ban of Okada, especially in Minna.
It added that government is considering reviewing the enforcement process of the Task Force on illegal motor parks, youths’ restiveness as well as security.
The statement, however, noted the provocative action of some unscrupulous elements trying to undermine the activities of members of the Task Force in the past, and warned that it would not hesitate to deal with anyone trying to truncate the operation of the Task Force.
It also appealed to the State’s Commissioner of Police to intensify efforts towards tackling youth restiveness, as well as review the composition of security personnel working with the Task Force for maximum success.
