Lionel Messi has left Cristiano Ronaldo in the dust in terms of who is the king of free-kicks in modern-day football.
Prior to 2013, Ronaldo was the unrivalled king with 45 free-kicks scored in 13 seasons. Messi had only managed 22 in that period.
However, the next 6 seasons that followed saw Messi hone his craft at a different level. The Argentine scored 36 free-kicks to become the undisputed king of dead balls. Ronaldo could only add 11 free-kick goals in that period.
Thus, Ronaldo has scored 56 career free-kicks, whereas king Messi has converted a staggering 58.
Ronaldo ain’t catching Messi any time soon, not with some terrible kicks he’s been taking lately.
