Speaking to the media on Thursday, Ralf Rangnick confirmed that Jesse Lingard will not be playing against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup on Friday.
The German said: “Jesse asked me and the club if we could give him a couple of days off just to clear up his mind. He will be back in the group, on Monday.”
However, it’s clear that this is not how the Lingard himself sees the situation. The 29-year-old took to Twitter on Thursday night to clear the air for good.
The forward wrote: “The club advised me to have time off due to personal reasons! But my headspace is clear and I’ll always be professional when called upon and give 100 percent.”
This is not the first time that a Manchester United player has openly defied Rangnick, with Anthony Martial denying the manager’s claim about him not wanting to be in the squad last month.
