Man United played out a 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 clash on Wednesday.
The Red Devils were outplayed for the majority of the game, but Anthony Elanga’s late equalizer helped them take a respectable result back to Old Trafford.
Tribuna.com takes a look at some of the under-radar episodes that might’ve been gone off the radar.
Ronaldo lambasts referees for not booking Atletico players
Cristiano Ronaldo was a furious man at the end of the disastrous first half and was spotted in an angry mood while heading back to the tunnel.
The Portuguese forward could be seen lashing out at the officials and repeatedly asking them, ‘where’s the card?’.
This was referring to the Atleti players not getting booked despite their strong challenges.
Pogba gets outwitted by Atletico midfielder
Paul Pogba had a disappointing game against Atletico and was just not allowed to operate freely in midfield.
Around the 56th minute, Pogba tried to press the Atleti players in midfield in an attempt to win the ball.
However, Hector Herrera was able to swiftly get the ball past him with some clever trickery, leaving the United midfielder embarrassed in the middle.
Rashford shoots the ball into the stands
Like Pogba, Marcus Rashford also had an extremely underwhelming game on Wednesday. He failed to make any impact whatsoever and annoyed fans with one horrific moment in the second half.
Around the 57th minute, Rashford received the ball around 35-40 yards away from goal.
Despite seeing Luke Shaw making a nice run into space on his left, the Englishman opted to take a shot from afar – only to see it blaze into the stands – leaving teammates and fans frustrated.
Ronaldo advises De Gea on better distribution
Ronaldo was not pleased with David de Gea failing to distribute the ball properly into his path during the Atletico game.
During a corner in the second half, while tracking back to defend, Cristiano had a talk with the Spaniard about his distribution.
Ronaldo could be heard giving the goalkeeper some advice on passing the ball forward and being quick with his distribution rather than taking his time with getting the ball away. De Gea looked a bit annoyed by it, but took the advice seriously to improve his distribution.
Pogba’s reaction after being subbed
Pogba was understandably unhappy with his poor performance against Atletico which saw him being substituted for Nemanja Matic around the 66th-minute mark.
The Frenchman looked gloomy on the bench but was consoled by a member of the coaching staff.
Cristiano hits another free-kick into the stands
Just before Elanga’s goal, United had a big chance to score from a direct free-kick after a player was brought down just outside the box.
The angle made it ideal for a left-footed player like Alex Telles to take it, but Cristiano wanted to go for glory himself.
He decided to take the free kick, but saw his effort go well wide of the goal – earning him some sarcastic jeers from the Atletico faithful as a result.
Over the last few months, Ronaldo has been heavily criticized for marching down the tunnel after not getting desired results in Man United’s away games. However, he made sure to appreciate the fans after the draw.
Cristiano was pictured clapping at the fans and appreciating their support in the difficult game which allowed the players to keep going and get the draw.
