According to Marca’s Luis F. Rojo, Frenkie de Jong’s salary at Barcelona is set to increase to €40m gross this season. This is part of the agreement he reached with the club in 2019.
This new figure would make De Jong the best-paid player at the club, overtaking Sergio Busquets who sits at €22m gross annually, as per Capology.
Last season, Frenkie’s salary was set at €16m. He was the fourth best-paid player in the squad.
Considering the 25-year-old’s new salary, it’s no surprise that Barca is trying to sell him. However, it’s been reported that the Catalans would be open to keeping Frenkie if he drastically reduces his wages.
