Luis Enrique has been sacked as the head coach of the Spanish national team, as confirmed by the Spanish Football Federation.
A statement from the RFEF reads:
“The sports management of the RFEF has transferred to the president a report in which it is determined that a new project should start for the Spanish Soccer Team, with the aim of continuing with the growth achieved in recent years thanks to the work carried out by Luis Enrique and his coaching staff.
“Both the president, Luis Rubiales, and the sports director, Jose Francisco Molina, have transmitted the decision to the coach.”
Enrique was appointed in 2018 and guided Spain to the semi-final of the Euros last year and the Nations League semi-final back in September this year.
The 52-year-old gaffer remains the last manager to lead Barcelona to a Champions League title. That was in 2015.
