Two people have been confirmed dead in the collision of a train and Lagos State Government staff bus in the Ikeja area of Lagos State on Thursday morning.
The spokesman for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) Adebayo Taofiq confirmed the casualties.
Also, a spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency in Lagos, Ibrahim Farinloye said “Two adult female staff of the State Government dead and several injured were evacuated.”
“The State Government staff bus was trying to cross the PWD/Sogunle rail crossing while the train coming into Lagos from Abeokuta trapped the bus on its rail.”
Eyewitness said many persons were injured during the accident.
The train reportedly dragged the bus from Shogunle to the PWD area of Ikeja.
The Guardian gathered that rescue teams are working to rescue victims of the accident.
Meanwhile, Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has expressed sadness over the incident.
“I am deeply saddened by the news of the train/bus accident. The vehicle was conveying staff of the Lagos state government, our staff who serve the state in different capacities,” Sanwo-Olu tweeted.
“Let’s say a prayer for the families and a prayer of mercy and protection for our state.”
