A 26-year-old suspected Internet fraudster, Franklin Akinyosuyi, who was arrested with a human skull a few days ago in Ondo State, yesterday, confessed to engaging in ritual practices to boost his nefarious business.
The suspect, a photographer, who also runs a boutique, was arrested, last week, at the Elewuro axis of Ondo town, headquarters of the Ondo West Local Council of the state, following the discovery of a human skull and other fetish items in his apartment by the children of his landlord.
Akinyosuyi, who showed no sign of remorse while being paraded at the police headquarters in the state, attributed his involvement in rituals to low patronage in his legitimate business and attendant hardship.
The suspect, who exonerated his landlord from the items found in his apartment, said he got the human head and other fetish substances in Ikirun, Ifelodun Local Council of Osun State, through a herbalist.
He said: “I am a photographer, and I own a boutique as well. It was last year that my uncle took me to a herbalist. I explained to him that my business wasn’t moving well, so he asked me to pay him N200,000 to make a concoction for me, which I paid within three weeks.
“After he was done, he asked me to come and pick it up, that was last November. He directed that I should be bathing with the human head every Thursday at exactly 1:00 a.m. I used it for a month, but didn’t see any difference in my business. So, I had to call the herbalist and tell him to refund my money.
“I also asked him to come and pick the human head as well, but he refused. However, he had started refunding my money because he had already sent me N20,000.
“So, on that faithful day, I decided to go and throw it away, dropping it in my backyard. Unfortunately, I went out, and before I could return, my landlord’s children saw it, informed their father, and in turn called the police.
“After we were arrested, the herbalist claimed that he paid someone to get the human head.”
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, who briefed newsmen on the development, said further interrogation and investigation led to the arrest of one Oyegoke Dare, an evangelist, who gave the skull and other fetish materials to the suspect.
“One Oyelade Sarafa, a herbalist, who also confessed to having helped procure the skull from one Asekun (a vigilante) in Ikirun, was also arrested.
“Two other suspects mentioned in connection with the case are currently at large,” she added.
The PPRO also said a 30-year-old labourer, Mohammed Musa, was also arrested by operatives of the Command for allegedly hacking a farmer, Dada Itopa, to death at Ebira camp, Ipele axis of Owo Local Council of the state.
