Bumble, a startup that makes a dating app, has just amended its community guidelines in an effort to reduce the number of instances of bots, spam, ghosting, and doxing. Both Badoo and Bumble, the company’s two dating apps, will be subject to the new regulation.
The rules of the site are undergoing a revision in order to eliminate the use of bots by prohibiting activities such as intentionally influencing “connections, matching, conversations, or engagement through the use of automation or scripting.” Bumble said that it had terminated access to over 8.2 million user accounts this year across all of its platforms, with the majority of these terminations occurring as a result of the use of artificial intelligence by the firm to identify fraudulent and spam profiles.
Bumble has been making significant investments in a variety of projects to create machine-learning algorithms in order to strengthen the security of its platform. The company made its algorithm to identify unwanted nudes freely available to the public a year ago.
The dating service is also introducing restrictions to prevent pornographic content on its apps, including content in profiles or attempts to buy, trade, or promote sexual content. These clauses will go into effect in the near future.

A “no-show” on a date, which occurs when two individuals arrange to meet and one of them doesn’t show up without any intimation, will now be counted as “bullying and abusive conduct” by the company. In addition, the company is cracking down on the practice of “ghosting” by classifying it as “bullying and abusive conduct.”
In a help page about ghosting that had been previously released, the business had simply encouraged users to think of it as the loss of the other person.

“Bumble is a dating app that is committed to being honest about the flawed nature of the dating world. The page had previously stated, “We fully understand that ghosting can be disappointing and frustrating at times, but it happens sometimes.” Consider it an opportunity to discover someone who is a better fit for you and their loss if someone suddenly ceases contacting you. “If someone suddenly stops messaging you, see it as an opportunity to find someone better for you.”
Bumble has announced that it would be revising its policies in order to add behaviors such as doxing and victim-blaming among the rule-breaking crimes that are considered to be violations of its “Physical Violence and Bullying” policy. This will apply to all of the company’s businesses, including Bumble, Badoo, and the Bumble For Friends (BFF) app, which was just recently launched.
The corporation has not disclosed any information regarding whether or if it intends to modify its reporting options and flow in order to accommodate the recent alterations to the community rules. In addition to this, it will have difficulties combating infractions of certain of these policies that take place off-platform.
