One month ago, Burna Boy and Jorja Smith reconnected for the official music video in support of their “Be Honest” collaboration. Now, the two superstars are linking up once more for a clip for another one of their high-profile collaborative releases, “Gum Body.” Released as part of the tracklist for Burna Boy’s new studio album African Giant, “Gum Body” was one of 19 records that called African Giant home, sitting alongside joint cuts featuring Future, YG, Jeremih, Damian Marley and others. Specifically, Burna Boy and Jorja Smith are teaming up with director Meji Alabi to breathe new life into “Gum Body,” giving the song a cinematic visual component.
“Music started with drums, to announce childbirth, the coming of the king, trouble in the land or something. That’s where the music started, that soul is always going to be there. So whether you understand it or not, it’s here to speak to you,” Burna Boy recently explained to us, sharing some insight into what informs his creative approach. “It’s [Afrofusion music] real, whether you understand what I’m saying or not, your soul is going to stand up … music just never stops. I don’t think there’s a right time or wrong time to let the music out.”
