Granit Xhaka has said that Arsenal were unlucky to lose against Sheffield United.
The Gunners went into the game still searching for their first away Premier League win since the opening weekend of the new season following draws against Watford and Manchester United as well as a defeat at the hands of Liverpool in August.
But they were buoyed by an eight-game unbeaten run across all competitions which had seen them start the weekend in third place and just a point behind reigning champions Manchester City.
However, the north London outfit couldn’t respond to Lys Mousset’s only goal of the game, but Xhaka’s post match comments might come as a surprise to many.
Echoing the comments of his head coach Unai Emery – which Gunners legend Ian Wright didn’t quite agree with – the midfielder was of the opinion that his side did a lot of things right.
“They have one chance, they score,” Xhaka said after the game . “We have maybe two or three chances and if we score first maybe the game change. “It was a great chance for our side. I would say if he scored that maybe the game changes.
“We don’t look at the table. It is so, so, so early to look at the table.
“We have to work to improve the things we didn’t wrong. I thought we did a lot of things right.”
Unfortunately for Xhaka, he is being blamed for the only goal of the game by some fans on social media.
The Switzerland international was in close contact with Mousset when the corner was taken and simply didn’t track the Blades striker and he had the simple task of a tap-in.
As expected, Arsenal fans are not best pleased with Xhaka…

I just hope you guys know that the goal came from Xhaka leaving his man.

Xhaka at fault for that goal. That’s not a captain

First he ducks under McTominays shot. Goal. Next looses his marker in the box. Goal. Granit Xhaka our captain. #Xhaka #SHUARS
