- Barca drew 2-2 against Real Sociedad and risked being overtaken by Real Madrid as league leaders.
- Fortunately, Los Blancos couldn’t win away against Valencia.
- In fact, they were close to losing 1-0 if not for Courtois’s header and Benzema’s rebound shot.
Barca will start the upcoming Clasico as La Liga leaders despite the recent 2-2 draw against Real Sociedad.
Our rivals got lucky for yet another time this seasons. Real Madrid were losing 1-0 to Valencia at Mestalla in the 95th minute but managed to get one point thanks to a collective effort from Thibaut Courtois and Karim Benzema.
The Belgian goalkeeper headed the ball after a corner kick but Los Che’s goalkeeper saved it. Unfortunately for Barca (and Valencia), Benzema was the first to take advantage of the rebound, winning Los Blancos a point.
This is still good news for the Catalans who will be heading into El Clasico as league leaders with 35 points. Madrid sit in second with 35 points as well but their scoring record is worse than Barca’s. The match on December 18 could become crucial in the title race and Barca should be thankful to Valencia for not losing.
