The Ksh 1.5 billion retirement package set aside for former Vice Presidents and ODM Leader Raila Odinga as the Treasury reviews the budget over coronavirus uncertainties.
Former NASA Coalition members Kalonzo Musyoka and Musalia Mudavadi were also beneficiaries of the package which was yet to be initiated. The package would have seen them take home Ksh 8.64 million per year (Ksh 720,000 a month) coupled with Ksh 108,000 fuel allowance per month.
They would also have been accorded 17 workers including personal assistants, chefs, accountants and secretaries.
A source within the Treasury reported that the allocation was withdrawn because it wasn’t a pressing matter now with the rising cases of COVID-19 in Kenya.
The government has since released Ksh 8.5 billion to the elderly, Ksh 500 million to persons with disabilities and Ksh 5 billion to the County Government and food relief to Nairobi County residents.
