Men of the Social Orientation and Safety Corps Agency (So-Safe Corps), a security arm of Ogun State government, have arrested four suspected ritualists caught with a fresh pair of human arms at the Idiroko border area of the state. The suspects are Dosu Mathew, aged 32, a Republic of Benin national; John Feyisetan, aged 47; Samuel Adegbola; and Itomu Micheal, a 40-year-old farmer and herbalist.
The Guardian learnt that the culprits were arrested on Sunday, May 17, by the men of the agency assigned to secure lives and properties of residents at the border area, in line with the Presidential and Ogun State government lockdown directives.
According to the corp’s Director of Information and Public Relations, ACC Moruf Yusuf, during the preliminary investigation by the corps, the suspects confessed without torture that three principal suspected ritualists who came all the way from Abeokuta took to their heels knowing the rest culprits have been captured.
Yusuf added that though the corps is working hard to ensure that the fleeing suspects are apprehended, he noted that those arrested and the exhibits found on them have been handed over to the police at the Idiroko Divisional Headquarters for further investigation and likely prosecution.
Meanwhile, the state police command said it has arrested two armed robbery suspects, Evans Iyam and Adedayo Taiwo, while on robbery escapade at Damsalam Street in Ajuwon, Agbado area of the state.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the duo were arrested on Saturday, following a distress call received by the police in Ajuwon division that a three-man robbery gang had stormed the street and shooting sporadically, thereby throwing the whole street into panic.
He said: “On receiving the distress call, the DPO Ajuwon division, SP Andrew Akinseye, mobilise his anti-robbery team and moved to the scene. On sighting the policemen, the hoodlums took to their heels, but were hotly chased and two members of the gang who came on a motorcycle were apprehended, while the third escaped with their motorcycle.
“Recovered from them is a locally-made short gun. On interrogation, they confessed coming to the street from ishasi in Lagos State for robbery operation.”
Oyeyemi said the Commissioner of Police, CP Kenneth Ebrimson has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the special anti robbery squads (SARS) for discreet investigation.
