Tragedy as a 100 level student identified as Vera Uwaila Omizuwa of the Department of Microbiology, faculty of Life Sciences, University of Benin has reportedly died from injuries sustained from rape.
Afriupdate learnt that the 22-year-old victim was reportedly raped on Friday 29th May, 2020 near Ikpoba Hill in Benin City, at her Church, the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).
According to reports, Vera went to Church to read as usual in preparation for the lifting of coronavirus-imposed lockdown.
It was further learnt that the perpetrator attacked her at the RCCG Ohovbe Road branch, raped and smashed her head with a fire extinguisher, leading to serious injuries on her head.
Vera was reportedly rushed to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) where she was battled for her life at the Intensive Care Unity (ICU)
She later died on Saturday midnight, May 30th following excess loss of blood and deep cuts sustained from the attack.

Reacting to the incident, a family source confirmed the development.
Source described the deceased as “an easy going person” while Nigerian have since taken to Twitter to demand for justice for the fallen student, using #JusticeForUwa as one of the numerous victims of rape across Nigeria.
