Chelsea lost two players to identical hamstring injuries as Arsenal battled to a 2:1 win at Wembley on Saturday.
Chelsea started brightly and took the lead inside the opening ten minutes but Arsenal battled back courtesy of an Aubameyang brace to book their place in the Europa League group stages for 2020-21.
The opening goal for Chelsea came after they exchanged a few passes in midfield with Pulisic releasing Mount down the left side. His cut back fell to Giroud who flicked it to Pulisic. The American used so e beautiful footwork to get past Kierian Tierney and slotted into the bottom left corner.
Arsenal didn’t give up though as they stuck to their game plan and it was rewarded ten minutes before halftime as a dangerous ball down the channel was chased down by Aubameyang who won a penalty off Azpilicueta–who would later sustain a hamstring injury few minutes later. He duly converted it and Arsenal were back in it.
Chelsea continued their possession based game in the second half but it was Arsenal who would take the lead.
Bellerin picked up the ball in his own half and surged forward. Christensen’s tackle would let the ball fall kindly to Pepe who dribbled his way into the goal and scored with a cheeky finish.
Arsenal would hold on to claim the victory, the trophy and the a place in next season’s Europa League.
Arsenal would now go on their holidays while Chelsea would prepare for their champions league round of 16 2nd leg against bayern Munich in which they’re 3 goals down.
