• Court dissolves 21-year-old marriage over wife’s refusal to cook
An Osun magistrate’s court sitting in Osogbo yesterday ordered the remand of a 30-year-old man, Abdulrasaq Sodiq, for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl (name withheld). The suspect reportedly committed the offence on September 11, 2020, about 8:00 p.m. at the Sabo area of Osogbo.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Adeoye Kayode, alleged that the accused had unlawful carnal knowledge of the victim, an offence punishable under Section 360 of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Vol ll Law of Osun State 2020.
The accused person pleaded not guilty to the charge. Defence counsel, Okobe Najite, applied for the bail of the accused in the most liberal term.
Opposing the bail application, the prosecutor argued that the act allegedly committed by the accused was rampant in the society and granting him bail would send a bad signal.
In his ruling, Magistrate Opeyemi Badmus ordered the remand of the accused in Ilesa Correctional Centre. He then adjourned the case till October 14, for hearing and consideration of
bail.
MEANWHILE, a customary court in the Mapo area of Ibadan yesterday dissolved a 21-year-old union between a painter, Ojo Ayeni, and his wife, Sade, over her refusal to cook food for her family for two years. Ayeni had alleged that his wife stopped cooking for him and his three children since 2018.
Delivering judgment, Magistrate Odunade dissolved the union in the interest of peace. He granted custody of the first child to Ayeni and the last two to Sade. The judge ordered Ojo to pay N10,000 as monthly feeding allowance
