Executive Director of Victims Support Fund (VSF), Prof. Sunday Ocheche, has warned Nigeria Police not to use the newly-constructed police station in Askira in Borno State to torture Nigerians.
Ocheche, who spoke, yesterday, in Askira, during the commissioning of the station and barracks constructed by VSF, said the facility would help police to provide adequate security for residents.
He said the purpose of setting up VSF was to complement government’s efforts that had direct bearing on human development, especially women and school children.
During the commissioning of Hong Local Council Secretariat, he said VSF spent N162m to reconstruct Hong Secretariat and three blocks of boys hostel, renovate girls hostel and construct four blocks of classrooms at Government Secondary School, Bazza in Michika Local Council.
He added that VSF was also facilitating access to education and providing psychosocial support for children, improving food production by providing inputs and machineries to small scale farmers.
Responding, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, who was represented by the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Umar Pella, commended VSF for its numerous life-saving projects in the state and the entire Northeast.
Pella appealed to VSF to double its efforts at improving the education sector, which he claimed, was abandoned by the past administrations.
