The governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State in the 2019 general elections, General Jeremiah Timbut Useni Rtd, has appealed to the Federal Government to show transparency, fairness and equity in the distribution of national infrastructure and offices.
He added that strategic appointments and inclusiveness in governance could engender nationalistic passions to give a sense of belonging to all sections of the country in the quest for national cohesion, stressing that is a much smaller price to pay to keep Nigeria one.
In a statement by Useni’s media aide, Mr. Yiljap Abraham, yesterday, Useni said: “Our unity of purpose should be our weapon of choice against banditry, terrorism, killings, destructions, kidnapping, insurgency, corruption and every vice that stands on our way in our march to greatness and prosperity.
“All these vices, and the consuming reality of COVID-19 should provide every Nigerian the vision to see the opportunities in our difficulties and offer ourselves selflessly to turn around the fortunes of Nigeria for the better. To lose hope, or despair by the dark clouds is to accept defeat. Nigerians should not surrender to criminality.
“In this wise, I call on Mr. President to consider creating a special palliatives and rebuilding package to revive and resettle communities displaced through criminal activities. They should be empowered. This will give them hope and a new lease of life in the nation.”
The statement added, “At our 60th anniversary, Nigerians should not be living for longer periods in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps or running from pillar to post with no hope and no aid. This can be a special jubilee gift to our fellow citizens. Fellow Nigerians should also extend hands of love by giving these displaced ones shelter away from the camps.”
