“Barcelona have accepted a proposal to play in the European Super League,” Josep Maria Bartomeu has just dropped a huge bombshell in his farewell press conference.
He explained: “This would guarantee the financial viability of the club going forwards.”
The idea of the European Super League was reportedly proposed by FIFA. It would involve up to 18 teams in a round-robin system and post league playoff-style knockout tournament similar to the NBA in the United States.
This tournament would replace the Champions League but limit the number of the participants. In short, no more games against Ferencvaros, only against Juventus and other big guns.
