Ronald Koeman of Barcelona is living on borrowed time at the club and is nearing the possibility of being sacked mid-way this season
Ronald Koeman’s appointment as the manager of Barcelona was filled with a lot of emotion and nostalgia since the Dutchman was once a legendary player of the club. However, the patience with Koeman is now running thin as the honeymoon phase is coming to an end.
The Catalans currently placed in the eighth position in the La Liga table with just three wins in seven fixtures.
In fact, Koeman was rather lucky with the victory against Real Betis as the sending off of Mandi and Lionel Messi‘s masterclass helped Barca secure three points. Even in the Champions League, the Blaugrana managed to just pull through against Dynamo Kyiv as Gerard Pique scored the winning goal to seal a 2-1 victory.
Koeman really needs to pull his socks up if he is to survive for the rest of the season as the manager of the club. With Ansu Fati out injured until 2021, the tension continues to grow at the club and now Barca are set to face an in-form Atletico Madrid.
The game against Atleti is a must-win for the club and for Ronald Koeman. A draw will not suffice either only three points will do justice given the slow start to the campaign.
The pressure is mounting every day for the Dutchman and a victory against Diego Simeone might just take some pressure of Koeman’s shoulders. However, a loss would be detrimental to the club and their chase for the La Liga title along with the manager’s future at the club.
