Creepy footage of hundreds of terrifying dolls reveals the eerie Island of the Dolls in Mexico. The sight was spotted by Valery Narudinov, who decided to visit the tourist attraction on his honeymoon.
In a report by The Mirror, the seemingly never-ending number of dolls, some headless, some disfigured, and others simply downright disturbing can be seen hanging from every tree, branch, and fence on the island.
The reason for this was traced to the death of a girl in the 1950s. The dolls were placed on the island in Xochimilco by its original owner, a man by the name of Don Julian Santana Barera after a young girl drowned in the waters surrounding the island in the 1950s.
He saw a doll floating in the waters and believing it to have belonged to the deceased girl, he hung it from a tree both as a sign of respect and to ward off evil spirits.
He did this continually all across the island for the next 50 years until his death in 2001.
There are rumours that his death can be traced to the dolls. He allegedly died in the same spot as the little girl was found some half a century earlier.
Some witnesses claim they had heard the dolls whispering to each other, while others who were on a boat near the island said the dolls lured them to come down to the island.
After Julian’s death in 2001, it has become a tourist attraction, with visitors bringing more dolls.
While the island is believed by many to be haunted, Valery insists that it did not personally give him the jitters. In his words:
The place is not really creepy, just interesting. Maybe due to other people being there. If I stayed there at night, I might feel differently.
