Barcelona have officially announced the signing of youth English international Louie Barry. The 16-year-old has joined from West Bromwich Albion where he played for their U18 side.
“He is called Louie Barry. He recently turned 16 on June 21. He is international with the English Under-16 team, with which he has played nine games and scored seven goals, and next season he will be part of Barcelona’s Juvenil A squad. He plays as a centre-forward, although he can also play on the right wing, and he comes from West Bromwich Albion, his club since he was 6 years old.
“Barry, born in Birmingham, has dual English and Northern Irish nationality and is considered one of the pearls of English football. The player, who has signed for three seasons, has passed the relevant medical tests at FC Barcelona. Silvio Elias, responsible for professional training football, and Jose Mari Bakero, responsible for professional training football, were present at the signing of the contract,” wrote the club on their official website.
With WBA’s U18 team, Barry has played 12 games scoring four goals and providing three assists last season. He had also represented Ireland’s U16 national side before switching to England.
The 16-year-old confirmed his West Bromwich Albion departure last week and attracted interest from Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Manchester United. According to England-based outlet The Sun, Louie rejected a £2.7m offer from PSG as he preferred Barca.
