- The centre-back left Chelsea on the deadline day this summer.
- Frank Lampard reportedly criticized him for his performance in a pre-season game.
- ‘We had a different idea of the future,’ Luiz says.
David Luiz has shed some light on his controversial move across London this summer, as he spoke to Brazilian journalist Mauro Cesar.
On a transfer deadline day, the Brazilian was sold to Arsenal after he missed a training session a day earlier.
“It was an individual decision made through honest conversation – between me and Frank Lampard, no one else,” David Luiz said about his transfer. “We had a different idea of the future of the game and that’s why I chose to take a new path.
“It’s always very difficult because of the rivalry, but I made the decision to leave Chelsea even before receiving Arsenal’s bid. As soon as I decided to leave Chelsea – after a few days – Arsenal’s proposal came, and as it was another great club, I didn’t think twice.
“It’s hard for rivalry, yes, but I couldn’t help but live a new story, in a new place, in a big club just because of the rivalry.”
According to an earlier report by the Independent, Frank Lampard made up his mind about David Luiz after the Brazilian’s uninspiring performance against Red Bull Salzburg.
After the game that ended in a 5-3 win for the Blues, the new boss gave Luiz a whipping about his display which left the centre-back all surly during the trip to London.
Since joining Arsenal, David Luiz has played 7 games in all competitions, conceding 2 penalties in the process.
