Jose Mourinho explains why signing Dani Ceballos on loan was wrong

  • Dani joined Arsenal on loan for a season.
  • He made his competitive debut in a 1-0 away win vs Newcastle coming on from the bench.
  • Mourinho claims Arsenal already have players with similar qualities.
  • Jose doesn’t think the Gunners needed to sign him when they have Ozil and Micky on the squad.

Dani Ceballos will spend this season at Arsenal before returning to Real Madrid. The Gunners agreed a 12-month loan spell with Los Blancos over the midfielder. However, Jose Mourinho is convinced the north Londoners already have players with similar qualities – Mkhitaryan and Ozil.

The Portuguese questions the necessity of signing another player of the same type:

“Ceballos, I think they have other Ceballos’ in the squad. He’s a good player but I think they have other Ceballos’.

“When I see Mkhitaryan, Ozil, Ceballos, they can play in different positions on the pitch and very similar characteristics.”

According to reports the Gunners have agreed to pay as much as £15m (in wages plus a loan fee) for the 23-year-old.
