Nigerian singer Burna Boy lost all seven of his nominations at the 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards, which were held at Atlanta’s Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center on October 3 and broadcast on October 10th.
Burna Boy was nominated for Hip Hop Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Lyricist of the Year, Best Live Performer of the Year, Hustler of the Year, Best Collaboration, and Best Hip Hop Video.
However, he lost all of his nominations to other artists, including Kendrick Lamar, Lil Uzi Vert, and 21 Savage.
The 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards were hosted by Fat Joe and featured performances by Sexyy Red, GloRilla, City Girls, DaBaby, and others. Kendrick Lamar was the big winner of the night, taking home four awards, including Hip Hop Artist of the Year.
Burna Boy’s loss at the BET Hip-Hop Awards is a surprise to many, as he is one of the most popular and successful African artists in the world. He has won numerous awards, including a Grammy Award for Best Global Music Album in 2021.
Yet, it is not the first time a big artist has lost all nominations at a major award show. In fact, one of the biggest artists in the world, Jay-Z, once lost all 9 of his nominations at the Grammy Awards.
Despite his loss at the Grammy Awards, Jay-Z is still considered one of the greatest rappers of all time. He has won numerous other awards, including 24 Grammy Awards, and he has sold over 100 million records worldwide.
It is key to note that award shows are just one way to measure success in the music industry. There are many other ways to be a successful musician, such as touring, selling records, and influencing other artists.
Burna Boy remains a successful and respected artist, even though he lost all of his nominations at the BET Hip-Hop Awards.
