The Recording Academy announced today the dates for the 66th Grammy Awards, as well as the addition of three new award categories. The awards show will be held on February 4, 2024, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
The newly added categories are:
Best African Music Performance
Best Pop Dance Recording
Best Alternative Jazz Album
The Recording Academy also announced that the eligibility period for the 66th Grammy Awards will close on September 30, 2023, one month earlier than usual. This change was made to allow more time for submissions and to ensure that the awards reflect the most recent musical releases.
The 66th Grammy Awards nominations will be announced on November 10, 2023. The show will air live on CBS.
Here are some additional details about the newly added award categories:
Best African Music Performance recognizes recordings of original African music. The category is open to recordings of any genre of African music, including traditional, contemporary, and popular music.
Best Pop Dance Recording recognizes recordings of pop music that feature prominent dance elements. The category is open to recordings of any subgenre of pop music, including dance-pop, electropop, and disco.
Best Alternative Jazz Album recognizes albums of alternative jazz music. The category is open to albums that feature a variety of styles of alternative jazz, including experimental jazz, free jazz, and jazz fusion.
The Recording Academy is committed to recognizing the diversity of musical talent around the world. The addition of these three new award categories is a reflection of that commitment. The 66th Grammy Awards will be a celebration of all genres of music, and the newly added categories will ensure that no one is left out.
