Jada Pinkett Smith, wife of actor Will Smith, shared that they’ve been apart for seven years but haven’t officially divorced. They’ve been living separate lives, even though they maintained the image of a happy couple.
In a recent chat with the Today Show, she revealed that the separation started in 2016, but Jada explained, “We weren’t ready to figure out how to be in partnership and how to present that to the public.”
Reflecting on the marriage, Jada admitted they both held onto their fantasies until 2016. She had promised they would never divorce, but it seems they won’t be getting back together.
Jada Pinkett Smith, 52, and Will Smith, 55, have been married since 1997. Despite their separation, they’re not legally divorced.
Their relationship made headlines when singer August Alsina revealed he had been romantically involved with Jada in 2020, during a difficult time in their marriage.
The 2022 Oscars incident, where Will slapped Chris Rock for joking about Jada’s hair loss, also drew attention to their marriage issues.
In a recent People interview, Jada revealed that she initially thought the Oscars incident was a skit, and she only realized it was real when Will walked back to his seat.
She mentioned that their marriage suffered due to various factors, saying, “By 2016, we were both exhausted with trying and stuck in our fantasies of what the other person should be.”
Jada Pinkett Smith’s upcoming memoir, “Worthy,” set to release on October 17, promises more insights into her life, career, and early experiences.
