In this edition of Afriupdate Weekend Artist Interview, we delve deep into the life of Nigerian’s sensational singer, Hip-hop pioneer and “Ncha” (Soapy Igbo Version) cronner “Lion Skiba”.

Nuel: Lion Skiba, you’re are welcome to Afriupdate Weekend artist interview, please we want to know you better — Who is Lion Skiba?
Lion Skiba: Thanks bro, my name is Agulanne Emmanuel chibuike professionally known as Lion Skiba, I am a musician.
Nuel: How did you come up with the stage name Lion Skiba?
Lion Skiba: The first three later words from my surname “Agu” is an Igbo word meaning Lion, then skiba is my slogan so I added them up Lion Skiba.
Nuel: How did you get into music?
Lion Skiba: It started when I was in secondary school, I sing and danced in any activities is school and my fellow students where always happy watching me so I found out I was talented that’s how I entered into music.
Nuel: Who inspired you to make music?
Lion Skiba: 2face idibia (2baba)
Nuel: Great!, So How did your parents and family feel about your decision to go into music professionally?
Lion Skiba: When I started they never supported it especially my dad that always wanted me to study petroleum engineering, but I didn’t give up I continue hitting the studio secretly until one day I was invited to perform in a show organised by his party members and he was surprised to see me perform and he watched his friends danced to my song he really enjoyed my performance so he approved it. but told me to finish my education first.
Nuel: Are you signed to any record label currently?
Lion Skiba: No I’m not signed to any record label yet — I have been sponsoring myself hoping to be signed soon On God.
Nuel: Do you write your lyrics yourself or you have ghostwriters doing the job for you?
Lion Skiba: Yea, I write my lyrics by myself bro. I have written a lot of songs waiting for me to voice them one after the other, so I don’t think I need a ghostwriter before I could hit the studio.
Nuel: What do you enjoy most about being a musician?
Lion Skiba: Actually what I enjoy most about being a musician is the happiness I derive from it. Music gives me joy and I do it with passion.
Nuel: And what do you hate most?
Lion Skiba: Honestly, I hate lies and greedy people.
Nuel: Alright, Which Musician(s) are you looking forward to do collaboration with?
Lion Skiba: Am looking forward to work with Davido, burnaboy, Nairamarly and 2Baba.
Nuel: What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?
Lion Skiba: Bro I would probably be outside this country mehnn!
Nuel: Have you ever had any ‘crazy fan encounter so far’?
Lion Skiba: Oh yea several times. on phone, on the road, at shows — some of them trying to call me and prove they know me to their friends lol😂 .etc
Nuel: what’s your relationship status, are you married?
Lion Skiba: Sincerely, I’m Single and not searching.
Nuel: Your female celebrity crush?
Lion Skiba: In Nigeria Teni outside Nikki
Nuel: Lion Skiba! we really love your recent single, “Ncha – Soapy Igbo Version” Please can you tell us more about the song?
Lion Skiba: Well, I was motivated by Naira Marley’s song “Soapy” — so I had to give the igbo version of the song AsEdeyHot. Ncha means soap.
Nuel: We realized that your “Ncha – Soapy Igbo Version is still trending and your fans globally are yearning for more tracks — What should we be expecting next?
Lion Skiba: My fans should be expecting the Video of Ncha very soon before I drop another banger.
Nuel: If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
Lion Skiba: I would love to change the way big artists treat the upcoming artists in the industry, it’s not fair at all — the young shall grow so if you see your brother climbing help him climb up so when you are falling tomorrow he or she will also help you rise – We rise by lifting others.
Nuel: Lion Skiba, in conclusion, what message or advice do you have for your fans?
Lion Skiba: My fans I urge y’all to keep supporting me, I promise I will make you proud Thanks!
