Nicki Minaj And Doja Cat Make Guinness Book Record

Nicki Minaj and Doja Cat have made a record by officially being in the Guinness World Record for the first female rap duo to hit No.1 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

On 16 May 2020, a remix of “Say So”, featuring Doja Cat (real name: Amalaratna Dlamini) of the US and Nicki Minaj of Trinidad & Tobago (real name: Onika Maraj) went to No.1 on the US Billboard Hot 100. This was the first time a female rap duo had made a mark on the countdown, and “Say So” was the first US No.1 single for both hit-makers.

This achievement makes Nicki Minaj a three-time Guinness Record holder, her previous awards being for other music victories. “Say So” went No.1 on the United States Billboard Hot 100, making it Doja Cat’s first Guinness record.

The song had a grand performance as it jumped to No.1 from No.6 the previous week after the remix dropped. With that, Minaj earned her 109th Hot 100 entry.

According to Guinness World Records, no other artistes had amassed that many hits on the US Singles Chart before reaching the top, up to May 16 2020.

The World Records official website stated that Justin Bieber previously held the record after reaching No. 1 with “What Do You Mean?” on September 19. 2015.

“Say So” remix is co-written by Dlamini and produced by Tyson Trax aka Lukasz “Dr Luke” Gottwald and is also the fifth song on Doja Cat’s 2019 album ‘Hot Pink’.

Minaj’s other Guinness records are for having the most entries on the Billboard Hot 100 before hitting the top and being the female artist with the most entries in the history of the Billboard Hot 100.

Doja Cat recently announced dropping out of the 2021 iHeartRadio Jingle Ball Tour after testing positive for Covid-19. She took to her Instagram account to state,

“I’m sad to share that I just tested positive as well and will no longer be able to perform on the rest of the iHeartRadio Jingle Ball Tour.

“While my spirits are down since I can’t be there to celebrate the holiday with my fans in Philly, DC, Atlanta and Miami, I’m doing ok and look forward to recovering and getting back out there as soon as I can!”
