The driver who killed Nicki Minaj’s father, Robert Maraj, in a hit-and-run has been sentenced to one year in jail.
After entering a plea of guilty to two felonies—leaving the scene of an event without filing a report and tampering with tangible evidence—Charles Polevich was sentenced to a year in prison on Wednesday. On top of that, he will have to pay a $5,000 fine and have his driver’s license banned for six months.
Polevich was facing a sentence of up to 7 years in prison, but Judge Howard Sturim sentenced him to a one-year jail term.
The news of Robert Maraj’s death was first broken by TMZ. Maraj died at the age of 64 after being struck in a hit-and-run accident in February 2021 while he was walking on Long Island.

Maraj was walking on a road in Mineola at about 6pm on 13 February 2021 when he was struck by a car heading northbound on Roslyn Road at the intersection with Raff Avenue, authorities said at the time.
The news of her father’s death came after Minaj’s brother Jelani Maraj was sentenced to life in prison in January 2020 for raping an 11-year-old child.
A few weeks later, Charles Polevich was detained after turning himself in.
