Veteran American actor Orson Bean has died after being struck by a car while walking across a busy road in Los Angeles on Friday night. He was 91.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office told the Associated Press that Bean’s death was under investigation as a traffic-related fatality.
Bean was walking in the Venice area on Friday night when he was hit by a car and fell, after which a second driver then struck him in what police say was the fatal collision.
Both drivers remained on the scene.
Los Angeles Police Department Capt. Brian Wendling told ABC News,
“The car coming westbound did not see him and clipped him and he went down.”
“A second vehicle was coming up, was distracted by people trying to slow him down and then looked up and then a second traffic collision occurred and that one was fatal.”
Bean is survived by his wife of 27 years Alley Mills and four children.
Bean made more than 100 appearances in television and film in an acting career that spanned back to the 1950s.
His credits include films such as “Being John Malkovich” and “Miracle on 34th Street” and TV shows like “Modern Family” and “The Bold and the Beautiful.” He had a recurring role in “Desperate Housewives” from 2009 to 2012.
His last film part was in “The Equalizer 2” in 2018.
