JoJo Siwa, the 17-year-old singer, dancer, actor and YouTube personality, has come out as gay.
Siwa first hinted at her sexuality in a TikTok video posted to her over 31 million followers on Thursday. In the video, she dances to “Born This Way,” the 2011 smash hit by Lady Gaga widely regarded as an LGBTQ anthem. The video has earned over 4.5 million likes and 25 million views, by far Siwa’s most popular video on TikTok.
Siwa on Friday shared a photo of herself wearing her signature oversized, sequined bow and a T-shirt that reads, “BEST. GAY. COUSIN. EVER.”

“My cousin got me a new shirt,” she captioned the post.
Lil Nas X, Perez Hilton, and Ellen DeGeneres were among those who showed their support for Siwa.
Show host Ellen DeGeneres, who famously came out on the cover of Time Magazine in 1997, responded to Siwa’s tweet with a heart emoji.
“Old Town Road” artist Lil Nas X, who came out as gay in 2019, was among the first to respond, tweeting: “If u spell ‘swag’ backwards, it’s ‘gay’. Coincidence??”
