First off, if you haven’t spent time there, everything you know might very well be wrong. While having a reputation, to some, as Fly-Over States, that couldn’t be further from the truth. It’s not that there’s nothing to do there, but it’s just that things look a little different in the Midwest.
If you ask those that’ve lived there their entire lives, they’ll tell you they like things just that way. So, you’re looking to join them? If that is what your future might hold, here’s everything to know before getting there.
Watch Out For The Weather
This is something to keep in mind whether you are eyeing up anything from Columbus to Indianapolis houses for sale. Sure, you’ll get each season but they might each be a little extreme. Odds are wherever you are in the midwest, the summers are going to be long and humid only to be paired with heavy snowfall throughout the winters.
During the peaks of summer, you might want to go from building to building with how hot it is and the same is going to be the case for the opposite with how frigid the winter can be.
Those extremes are even going to be the case during the softer seasons (being spring and fall) but those, on the other hand, are extreme in the way of how nice they are. When you can, make sure you put aside the time for a rural drive during both of those times of year. Both seeing the foliage come into bloom, and then later brown, are each amazing sights to see.
The People Are Friendly
Maybe a few small town cliches are correct, well at least this one is. You’ll be sure to find this out the more rural you go, but things might not be too different in the largest cities throughout the midwest. Life tends to have a slower place in the midwest and that tends to carry through from the one street light towns to the large metropolitan areas.
With things running a little slower, all around, you’ll be quick to notice that strangers may have a little more time to chat compared to those you may have bumped into in the largest cities on either coast.
You’ll Keep More Of Your Money
When looking at housing, no matter from Columbus to Indianapolis, being the cities mentioned earlier, you’ll be shocked at all the value you’ll be getting for your dollar. If you are used to coastal city prices, don’t think something is wrong. It’s simply that there’s that much better of a cost of living the more toward the middle of the country you’re looking. Don’t be surprised when you are considering rentals, houses to own, and you can’t believe what’s in your budget.
That’s going to translate elsewhere also. The better cost of living doesn’t end in housing prices. You’ll be sure to notice it whenever you go out to eat, get groceries, and even when you get to that new place of your nice and furnished.
