After a good year of speculation, Blizzard Entertainment has finally announced the upcoming release of Diablo IV with a horrifying nine-minute cinematic trailer, accompanied by a fight-heavy gameplay trailer.
According to Kotaku, director Luis Barriga said on stage at BlizzCon 2019 that “the game will aim to recreate the series’ ‘dark roots,’ which some fans thought may have been lost in the last Diablo game.”
In the cinematic trailer above we see a group of treasure hunters pursued by a pack of demons. They land on a door, hold of their chasers and discover the key lies in their blood, but instead of falling into a room of gold, they unlock what soon appears to be a gate to hell, where all of them are sacrificed to summon a devilish, horned woman. Then, in the gameplay video, we find ourselves in the cold, desolate world of Diablo, where evil is closing in yet again. Here, we also get a glimpse into a number of fight sequences with the main playable characters.
Under the cinematic trailer, the description gives a bit of insight into the forthcoming game.

“Diablo IV takes place many years after the events of Diablo III, after millions have been slaughtered by the actions of the High Heavens and Burning Hells alike. In the vacuum of power, a legendary name resurfaces.”
