A new trailer is out for Takashi Yamazaki’s contribution to the Godzilla franchise, Godzilla Minus One.
Set in Japan in the aftermath of World War II, the country must now grapple with a new, unprecedented threat. The action film is directed and written by Takashi Yamazaki. He also helmed visual effects for the flick.
“After the war, Japan’s economic state has been reduced to zero. Godzilla appears and plunges the country into a negative state,” the movie’s description reads.
The trailer kicks off with a montage of action as citizens run for their lives. “Is that… Godzilla?,” a woman asks from aboard a train as the monster quickly approaches. Inevitably, mass destruction ensues with Godzilla ripping up entire cement street foundations and crushing crowds under his foot.
Ryunosuke Kamiki stars as protagonist Kōichi Shikishima and Minami Hamabe as Noriko Ōishi. Additional members of the case include Yuki Yamada, Munetaka Aoki, Hidetaka Yoshioka, Sakura Andō and Kuranosuke Sasaki.
Godzilla Minus One will premiere in Japan first on November 3, known as “Godzilla Day,” when the first movie made its debut in 1954. A release in US theaters will follow on December 1.
