This past weekend, 2019’s computer-animated reboot of The Lion King pulled in yet another monetary milestone.
Having grossed $1.335 billion USD at the worldwide box office, the Jon Favreau-directed film surpassed Frozen‘s $1.277 billion USD to become the highest earning animated film of all time. For those that are thinking, “It’s not an animated film, it’s live-action,” then in that case, TLK lands at the No. 12 spot on the all-time list of movies.
Domestically, The Lion King has currently generated $473.1 million USD, making it the third best animated film behind Incredibles 2 and its $608.5 million USD, and Finding Dory with $486.2 million USD. It’s been big Stateside, but it’s been massive globally.
The Lion King is entering its fourth week in theaters, and it’ll only add to those figures, likely breaking into the top 10 of all-time highest earning movies.
