Turkey Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has announced the start of normalization with Egypt, saying that diplomatic contacts with Egypt have started.
While responding to questions from journalists, Çavuşoğlu said, “There will be unconditional interviews within the framework of the determined road map. While negative messages against us have been decreasing recently, positive messages have been coming from Egypt”
He further said that, “no preconditions came from the Egyptians. Any prerequisites from us are currently not gone, but when the bonds have been broken for years, it is not so easy to act as if nothing happened in a day. It is formed by meeting slowly, determining a road map and taking steps on those issues. There is a lack of trust when there is so much disconnection over the years.
This is normal, it can happen on either side. For this reason, negotiations take place within the framework of a certain strategy and road map and continue. We have contacts with Egypt at both the intelligence level and the foreign ministry level. Our contacts at diplomatic level started.”
Çavuşoğlu explained that they had previously met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Semih Shukri as they came together at international meetings in New York two years ago, and that since 2013 there has been a disconnection in relations.
