Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Monday announced plans to relax most COVID-19 restrictions put in place to curb the spread of the disease.
The president announced that the curfew, first imposed in July 2020, is now from 10pm to 5am. Other measures eased include the use of letters, which are no longer required for movement, Food markets and informal sectors can now reopen subject to adherence to World Health Organization (WHO) Guidelines.
Mnangagwa further announced that schools must prepare to re-open, intercity travel can now resume, adding that bus operators must ensure the disinfection of buses.
Restaurants should not have sit-ins but serve take-aways and deliveries, however pubs and gymnasiums remain closed. Supermarkets can remain open until 7pm.
Funeral gatherings remain at holding a maximum capacity of 30 people, while all other social gatherings now at a maximum capacity of 50.
Zimbabwe has thus far recorded 36,115 coronavirus cases and 1,468 deaths.
