Aides of the governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, are accused of brutally beating an artist there named Kelvin Ibinabo, who has since been admitted to the hospital.
The assistant, who goes by the name Machiavelli Uzo, is the Coordinator of the Ohaozara Development Center in the Ebonyi State municipality of Ohaozara.
The rapper said on Tuesday that the Uzo and his supporters attacked him on Saturday and imprisoned him in a pitch-black chamber.
Ibinabo described his trauma, claiming that the LGA Chairman, Mr. Consider Ajah, had hired him to sing at his mother-in-funeral law’s at the council.
He said he had ordered his staff to pack up when night fell.
The coordinator of the Ohaozara Development Centre, Machiaveli Uzo, suddenly appeared and gave me the order to play the APC candidate for governor of Ebonyi State’s campaign anthem, the victim said.
Ibinabo claimed he turned down the invitation because the occasion was not political and he was finished with his performance.
“They dragged me into a room in the property and locked me up after beating me nearly unconscious.
He continued, “Later, the police in Ohaozara came, freed me from the room, and transported me to the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, for treatment.
The victim claimed that the chairman of the Ohaozara council was absent when the assault took place.
But Uzo, who referred to the musician as a friend, denied assaulting the musician.
According to him, the musician decided to sing a song for him after he begged him to.
“After that, we retreated inside the home and began to have fun, but after a while, he (Ibinabo) declared he needed to go outside and look something over.
I then overheard a ruckus in which he was being beaten and chased into a house. Like other people inside, I was as shocked by his attackers’ behavior as they were, he said.
SP Chris Anyanwu, a spokesman for the Ebonyi State Police, claimed to be unaware of the occurrence.
He said, “I haven’t heard or received any details about this. Where did it take place? Who gave him the order to sing?
