Representative of Umuahia-Ikwuano Constituency in the House of Representatives, Sam Onuigbo, has deplored the slow pace of work on the Umuahia -Ikot Ekpene road, which contract was awarded in 2016.
He rated the level of work on the federal road linking Umuahia, Abia State, and Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State as appalling, saying that poor funding by the Federal Government might have caused the delay of the project.
Onuigbo, who facilitated the award of the road contract that passes through his constituency to neighbouring Akwa Ibom State, urged governors to use the allocations for ecological funds judiciously to address the impact of ecological devastation on their environments.
He said part of the contract involved the expansion of some sections of the road from the Abia end.
The lawmaker stated this while speaking with The Guardian on the sidelines of the launch of the Women Associations Uniform and Maggi Women Forum of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike (MOUAU).
At the event, he canvassed for funds for the completion of the Association’s Skills Development Centre for Women and Girls.
Wife of the university’s Vice-Chancellor and President of the Association, Dr. Nkechi Nkem Iwe, said at the event held in the university’s auditorium, said she was convinced that the challenges facing women could be tackled to improve their status in society.
