Gov. David Umahi has commended the judiciary in Ebonyi for its performance on the quick dispensation of Justice.
Umahi gave the commendation on Friday, during a ceremony to mark the 2022/2023 Legal year in the state.
The governor pledged continuous support for their welfare in the state
The Chief Judge of Ebonyi, Justice Elvis Ngene, said that the judiciary is determined to uphold the principles of the rule of law and the protection of human rights.

Ngene also expressed commitment that during the year, it would also ensure the dispensation of Justice in accordance with the law, in line with established international best practices.
“The theme of the ceremony is apt. And we are not only committed to providing shelter for our democracy but determined to strongly defend it, especially as the 2023 polls draw near.
“I call on all caders, staff of the judiciary, court users, and the general public to collaborate with us in our bid to eschew and wipe out all forms of corrupt practices. We will continue to uphold transparency and follow established rules and procedures in court processes.
“Also, I invite members of the bar, other judicial officers and the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Cletus Ofoke, the police, correctional services, and other stakeholders in the justice sector to join us in our resolve to improve our justice delivery in the new legal year,” Ngene said.
He, however, commended Gov. Umahi for his consistent assistance and presence during ceremonies marking its legal years.
Ofoke said the target for the 2022/2023 legal year is to consolidate the gains already recorded in the ministry and further set out new targets.
The commissioner assured of continuous and effective monitoring of officers and state cases, matters in all divisions of the state, federal high courts, and court of appeal to ensure that none of the cases suffers a setback.
He charged legal practitioners to always complement the efforts of the judicial officers and strive to promote the rule of law as no society can realize its potential without a functional judiciary.
“We will work to ensure that executive bills and orders, among other related issues, take the center stage in Ebonyi,” Ofoke said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the legal year featured a special court session and parade by the police command in the state.
